About Traditional Knowledge Database of Nepal
This Database about genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge of Nepal is prepared by consolidating information available in public domain. During the first phase, which was led by ABS-GEF Project of Ministry of Forests and Environment and IUCN Nepal, the information published in more than 120 articles related to traditional knowledge/ethnobotany were accessed.
The Department of Plant Resource (DPR) is responsible institution within Ministry of Forests and Environment (MoFE) with mandate to maintain this database, and is continuously compiling information regarding traditional knowledge.
This database is intended as a reference for the researcher and potential bioprospectors in Nepal and abroad who are interested in genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge of Nepal. This is also potentially useful for the patent offices and claimers.
The database will help preserve and respect traditional knowledge held by indigenous peoples and local communities inhabiting across the country.
This database is not designed as a prescription to be used for self-health practices.
